Mindful Nutrition

I believe that eating shouldn’t just be for nourishment. I believe there should be enjoyment while eating as well. If this seems complicated, don’t allow it. Simply put, learn to enjoy the nourishing food you put in your body.

At mealtime:

  • Be present in the moment.
  • Be in tune with your emotions and feelings when you are preparing for mealtime and when you are having a meal.
  • Inhale the aromas.
  • Identify the colors and textures of the food in your meal.
  • Appreciate how your meal comes together.
  • Experience the layers of flavor.
  • Enjoy your meal.

If you struggle with this concept, review the actions I’ve listed below:

  • Understand your views of food and the purpose food serves in your life.
  • Embrace a non-diet approach.
  • Seek to achieve overall nutritional wellness by eating well-balanced meals and managing your portion sizes. Choose quality over quantity.
  • Try not to deny yourself. Avoid becoming ritualistic in you eating behaviors.
  • Pay attention to your body. Eat when you are hungry and stop eating when you are not hungry.
  • Ask yourself how does eating make you feel. Try not to diminish your emotions. It is okay to feel your feels.
  • Does eating or deciding what to eat cause a feeling of uneasiness?
  • Know when it is time for you to seek the support of others.

Acknowledge the important connection with mood and food. When we are in tune with our emotions, we become positioned for growth that helps us achieve endless possibilities and available to receive any support we may need. Be encouraged.
