I really want to be healthier. I have tried numerous times to get on the right track, but I can never seem to find my rhythm. Every time I set a start date; something comes up. It’s like I give up before I even start. I am beginning to get depressed because I do not like the way my body looks. Do you have any advice on how I can get control of my health? – DEFEATEDLY MOTIVATED
First, I want you to know that you are not alone. The situation you described is common among many people wanting to improve their health. Change in general can be quite intimidating. My advice is to avoid looking to control this situation. Instead, accept where you are. Acknowledge what you are not pleased with presently. After having done so, match your action with your desire. Disconnect from the self-inflicted criticism, pressure, fear, and/or anxiety. There is no perfect way to start this process. Put one foot in front of the other and take the first step. Make a commitment, no matter how small, and see it through. Over time, gradual and consistent commitment to change will ultimately pay off. At that point you will have transitioned from defeated to conqueror.
